I don't like fish. Actually, I hate fish. To eat, to look at, to watch, whatever...eewww! I haven't always had this phobia, in fact when I was really little I would go fishing with my dad and I loved it. Nevertheless, I have acquired this aversion and I know exactly where it stems from.
When I was about 10 years old, my best friend was Lauren Lord. In her house there was a huge fish tank (probably about 10 feet long and 2-3 feet deep). They had hundreds of fish in there and several of them were pregnant. One day, out of boredom, Lauren and I were staring at the tank and we noticed that one of their expecting fish was missing. We looked and looked and couldn't find it in the tank--that's because it wasn't in the tank. I, unfortunately, found it months later stuck to the front of a magazine that sat in a basket next to their tank. Aahhh! I immediately did that "ew-gross" thing. You know, where you jolt up, shimmy a little, jump up and down, rub your hands on whatever and whoever is near by, all the while repeating over and over, "ew, ew, ew, ew!!"
I don't think I'll ever get the image of that dead, dehydrated fish out of my mind. It's mouth open, gills flared, and eyes that were staring straight at me. To this day, I can't watch a nature special on fish, or any other deep sea creature for that matter. But each and every day I try to be brave and face my fear by tending to Carly's pet fish, Princess Aurora.

I love fish! To watch, to swim with in Hawaii. But, NOT to eat - yuck - too fishy!
How nice are you to let Carly have a pet fish! I hate fish too and Ellie has been begging for a fish, but Dustin and I keep saying no. You're a way cooler mom than I am!
I pretend to love salmon, because my daughter & husband do & I don't want to discourage her. So I am like a child that hides it in the napkin or makes excuses to leave the table.
I used to think I'd miss fish (because we never eat it), but I don't really. Don't most fishes taste the same anyways? I've never been able to distinguish one from the other. I've been to hoity-toity restaurants where folks try to impress each other by ordering some frou frou fish entree, but to me, it all just tastes like fish.
I LOVE salmon, if it's cooked right--or grilled, even better. And I like shrimp too. We got a beta fish at a white elephant party last Christmas and Dave kept stealing it so we ended up with it but I refuse to clean the tank, so it sits there getting more and more disgusting until I nag Dave enough to clean it. That's why I hate fish.
