life in chile: my house.

I've decided to do a weekly post about how my life in Chile differs from my life back home.
This is what I came up with today...

This is my front door.

Notice anything missing?

That's right!
My front door doesn't have a doorknob.
It only has a door-pull for pulling the door closed when you leave.
The only way to open my front door, locked or unlocked, is with a key.

At first, this was really frustrating for me. I would run outside for a quick second and out of habit, shut the door behind me. The door would be unlocked, but without a doorknob, I had no way to get back in.

I've grown accustomed to taking my keys with me whenever I go outside, but it took some getting use to (and by "getting use to" I mean a lot of banging on the door and begging the kids to let me in).

Oh, and one more thing...

Look who spotted me while I was outside taking pictures.

He got a haircut.
He's so cute!

How random is that? I bet you never thought you'd miss having a door knob. Wes looks like a little man in that picture. When did he get so big? He sure is a cutie!

That's so wierd! And inconvenient! You know I could probably send you a dor knob to install and you could be very "American". :)
Kora locks me out every time I step outside also... thank goodness Riley around most of the time to let me in. I'm looking forward to your next "Life in Chile" post.

I forgot to say how cute Wesley looks!
Did you give him the cut?

So what would happen if you shut the door, the kids were with you, and the keys were inside? Would you have to wait for Ammon? That would freak me out. I'd have anxiety attacks about that. Wait. I'm having an anxiety attack right now for you!

super weird! Makes me think of our house here in Texas. Our house does not even have a doorbell. What builder this day in age, does not put a doorbell on a brand new house? I guess we would of had to pay $10,000 more for that upgrade :) Weird. By the way, Wesley is so cute. You guys have super cute kids.

I lucked out that this time I have a regular door knob... although my last house here had one as well, but it didn't turn from the outside. Such is life in Chile I guess.

That door thing is kind of crazy. You'll be so glad you have all these cool pictures of your memories. I wish we had pictures of our house in Korea -- it had these shutters that would go down over all the door in the house at night to keep us safe. And bars on all the windows! One time someone unscrewed the windows and tried to steal my electric curlers that were witting there.

Very interesting. I would be locked out of my house all the time!
