December 7, 2008

nutshell.

Seems like I'm constantly playing catch-up on my blog. Retelling stories and sharing events that happened a few days, or even a few weeks ago. I haven't quite perfected the balance between living my life and documenting it, but hey, no one's perfect.

So, in typical fashion, here's what happened last week:

❄ M O N D A Y : I enrolled Wesley in a local preschool for 2009. It's called "The Kiddie Winkie Place"--doesn't that sound so Singaporean! When we return in January he'll go 3 days a week from 7am - 1pm. I'm looking forward to having more me time and being able to explore Singapore with ease, but I'm also a little bit sad--my baby boy is growing up. Sniff, sniff.

❄ T U E S D A Y : Maintenance came to re-grout my kitchen and bathroom. Fact: The grout here is wonky. Seems like everyone I talk to hates their grout. I'm not sure if it's just really cheap or if it's because they don't seal it, but it falls out like crazy leaving your floor looking old and dirty. So, as politely as I could, I phoned housekeeping and asked them to re-grout my bathroom and kitchen. They obliged.

❄ W E D N E S D A Y : I paid for my pickiness. My apartment was covered in a layer of grout dust and my kitchen was completely off limits while the grout was drying. Finally, at about 4pm I got down on my hands and knees and began scrubbing the grout residue off the tile. My knees are still sore and bruised.

❄ T H U R S D A Y : I caught a ride from my friend Catherine to the RS Christmas activity. They had a nice dinner, a program, and a cookie swap. Apparently I missed the announcement that it was Sunday dress and I showed up in capris and a shirt. I felt like a total dork.

❄ F R I D A Y : Carly performed in her class Christmas play. They reenacted the book, Wombat Divine. Carly played the koala that becomes a shepherd and she had two speaking parts. She was so cute. She said her parts with such drama and gusto! I was so proud, I teared up a little. I'm so sappy. Who knew?

Carly the koala/shepherd. I didn't get any good ones with her koala ears so you'll just have to imagine those.

This is her "No more pictures, Mom!" face.

❄ S A T U R D A Y : Ammon and I got a babysitter and went out on a date for first time in months. I love that man. When we got home, the house was clean and the kids were in bed. I think we've found a new babysitter.

❄ S U N D A Y : Carly woke up running a high fever and coughing. I'm 99% sure that she caught Mycoplasma from Wes. Tomorrow is a national holiday because of Hari Raya Haji so it looks like we'll be making a trip to urgent care for antibiotics.

And that's my week in a nutshell.

1. dont feel like a dork, Im sure no one else cared what you were dressed like. Plus on those occasions you can always claim you an investigator

3. Life sounds fun, minus the microplasma!

that sounds like a great week! It doesn't seem like you've been there long enough for Carly to be in school already. I don't know why. Is she going to be all thrown off because of the different seasons? (meaning...wasn't it about time for her "summer" break?)

sorry about your bruises. no fun.

hurray for good baby-sitters!

I do not enjoy when my kids get sick either! Last week Braden had a stomach virus at least it was only one day. So how old are your kids now. That sounds really nice that you'll have some freedom once Wesley starts preschool! Lucky Girl!

Don't feel too bad. I think most of us feel like we're playing catch-up a lot of the time. ;)

I can't believe Wesley is old enough for preschool! He was a baby last time I saw him! (Speaking of which, Austin and I are really looking forward to seeing you guys.)

I hope trying to get Carly to a doctor isn't too much of an ordeal. One reason to hate this time of year: everybody gets sick. (Currently fighting a cold myself.) Hopefully you and Ammon won't pick up the bug.

I love hearing about your week and the catching up. Hopefully Carly will feel better before your big trip to the US! Wish it was to CA so we could see you, but maybe next time.

that "no pictures, mom" face looks like a face her dad did and still does. ;)
