getting sick & growing up.

Can you believe it? Look at all those antibiotics. Crazy, right?
We had to take Carly to Urgent Care last night because she had a UTI. Since I could empathize with her pain, we rushed her in to see a doctor and she came home with 8 bottles of antibiotics. Is it just me, or does that seem a little excessive?

Oh, and speaking of Carly, she finally lost (Ammon pulled) her front tooth. It's been wobbly for months and we couldn't take the drama anymore so out it came. The next morning she found a crisp bill under her pillow and she was so excited that the tooth fairy had visited. Later that day she came home from school wanting to know if the tooth fairy was real. Apparently, someone told her that fairies (including the tooth fairy) weren't real during recess and she got pretty upset. I tried to tell her in a round about way that they're real if she wants them to be, but then she started to cry and just wanted to know the truth. So, I did what all good parents would've done, I lied. In my opinion, she still needs to believe in fairies and happily ever afters. She can always grow up tomorrow.

I grew up knowing about the tooth fairy but I still acted like I didn't because one, I like money and two, it's so much more fun to pretend. I like believing in things even when I know they're not real because I like a little magic in my life.

8 bottles? That does seem a bit excessive for something as routine as a UTI, especially for a kid. Are they extremely low doses or something?

I think it is much better to have your child have faith in the things they can't see and to dream about the possibilities of the unknown, don't you agree? I think the fostering of that belief far outweighs the telling of one little lie!

Poor Carly! I feel her pain. She's so young to be getting UTIs. Hopefully the meds help her quickly.

Congrats on the first tooth. A dentist friend told us that if you wiggle a loose tooth with a paper towel they will fall out faster. Helps loosen it more...We've had good success with it.

What a mean kid to tell her there are no fairies. Party pooper.

I would have probably told her that fairies are real too... or at least if she wants to continue receiving those crisp bills under her pillow then she had better believe in them.

Goodness that is a lot of antibiotics, you only get one here and a pain med for a UTI. Seems strange to get so many there. Hopefully she'll start to feel better soon. UTI will make anyone miserable.

I can't believe she lost a tooth! I love the picture of her with a big gap in the front. When did she get so big?

PS- I would've done the same thing. Where's the fun in not believing.

Wow I would think just one antibiotic would do the trick...that's too bad her friend's told her about the tooth fairy. I found out about Santa Clause/fairies not being real in the 1st grade but didn't mind I was actually glad to know since my older sister (Michelle) in the 5th grade already new as well.

How sad for Carly - I hate UTIs. And yes, the antibiotics do seem excessive. How strange!

I definitely would have kept the tooth fairy thing going. It's just one of those fun things about being a kid.

Her picture is absolutely darling!

Way to go on losing/pulling the tooth. Hopefully it wasn't as dramatic as Ashley's!!! She looks cute. Sorry about antibiotics. Looks like a pharmacy! No fun. And when the kids ask if someone/thing (you know, Santa and the tooth fairy...) is real I just ask them back, "do you believe they are?" Then they decide and it's usually a huge smile and a "Yes." They grow up fast enough. Let them believe for a little bit longer.

WHOA. that IS a lot of antibiotics. I'm thinking overkill?

I have a hard time with the make believe fairy stuff with my kids. I don't know the right answer.

Carly is so beautiful (like you)!
I agree with you... I don't want them to grow up yet!
I think she definately has more time to have fun and believe in the fun things. I hope she feels better soon!
Yes, it seems like alot of meds! Maybe they're less concentrated there. ??
Also, even your photo of the bottles is amazing! :)
