decisions.

Calling all moms!

I'm looking at getting a baby sling this go 'round.
I've never used one before so I'm curious--

Did you use a sling?
Did you love/hate it?
What brand did you use?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks!

I have a tube sling. I just bought it on ebay from someone who makes their own. I have instructions on how to make one if you know how to sew. I couldn't use it when Samara was little because she had to wear this harness thing but I thought it was very handy later. I've also heard of this one called a Maya wrap that is one continuous piece of fabric that friends have raved about.

I loved your Thailand post by the way!

i'm not much help on this one...i couldn't stand wearing any type of sling or baby carrier. i blame it on my claustrophobia. :)

I have a modmum sling, but I got it when Noah was 2 so I've never used it (although they say I could have, I just felt weird about it). My sister tried it with her newborn and it mostly just squished her. I asked them at Swiss Days to show me how to do it again and I think I'm going to try it this go-round, now that I know how to actually use it.

I used one with Storey and still do occasionally, especially when she is being extremely fussy at church. It's the only way I've ever been able to get her to sleep outside of her crib. Definitely a lifesaver since I was always chasing a toddler around too.
BTW-I sell them :) And if you want to make your own, I also sell a pattern. Just sayin'.

I amde my own using instructions I found online and LOVED it. It leaves you hands free at a store or while doing odd things around the house.

I have a bad back and Baby Bijorns always hurt to wear. But my sling was quite easy on my back.

Little Ella was in there quite a bit. However, Evangeline never was a fan, so sometimes it depends on the baby.

I have a Taylor Made sling that my Visiting Teacher gave me as a gift when Luke was born (yeah, nicest VTer EVER) and I love it. They aren't as cute as some of the other slings out there, but there is so much I can do with it and I love love love it. Luke loves it too. I use it at the grocery store, Ward parties, ball games, picnics, soccer games, Church. . . basically anywhere I would normally carry him, but at least this way I'm not in pain.

The sling is great because you can nurse with it, have them sleep in it, have them sit on your hip, face inward when they're little or outward when they get bigger. . .

So yes! You need one!

I bought a "hot slings." I would have loved it and used it a ton if I had the right size. The one I got was a medium and it was impossible to squeeze my baby into that thing- he was squished and so was I.

Hi Lynette,

I had a wrap that was one solid piece of fabric, it was awesome, but it was sweaty for me and my little one in the humidity. I have friends who have used this one:

They live in the tropics too and say it is much better than the alternatives in terms of snuggling the baby without getting too warm.

Check out the rest of the website, too, love their maternity gear!

Just to be clear, I have never used a baby sling; however, there are a few ladies in our ward who do; I did a short survey, and Peanut Shell was the preferred sling. http://www.thepeanutshell.com/
They are available on line or from Nordstrom's
If you find one you like, I can have Alice bring it with her in December
Love to all
