I think most people already know that I'm a little OCD about having a clean house, but I have a dirty little secret. When I was little, I was a pack-rat! I shoved my toys under the bed, wrenched my clothes into their drawers, and hid papers and wrappers wherever there was an empty space. To me, cleaning my room meant "out of sight, out of mind."

Then, something happened, I got married and it was as though someone flipped the switch. I began scrubbing the toilets, sinks, and tubs, on a weekly basis. Now, I can't rest at night if there are any dishes in the sink, and I can't stand to go longer than a couple of days without dusting and vacuuming. If I've recently (meaning within a few hours) straightened up the couch, I don't let Ammon sit on it (a huge source of contention). I rarely can leave my house unless all the beds are made and the toys are picked up, hence my tendency for always being a few minutes late.

For me, there is just something satisfying, something reassuring, about having an orderly home. It seems that even though life is at times difficult and trials come my way, as long as I can see the vacuum lines in the carpet, everything will be all right. Plus, if my house ever gets broken into, I wouldn't want the burglars to think I wasn't a good housekeeper!

Confession: I have a domestic disorder!

Me too! I run around with clorox clothes in case I see a spot on the floor or wall. It gets harder the older the kids get and the more I have, so now I just have certain times of the day when I insist the house is clean: when I leave, before Dustin gets home from work (he now works at home, so that is evolving) and before bed. Good news is -- I can make Ellie and Nate do work too!
