...so what!

First of all, I don't watch the Tyra Banks Show. I don't even think she is a good talk show host. But the other day while I was at the gym, I watched part of an episode. It was an episode regarding her article in People magazine, encouraging women of all shapes and sizes to embrace their bodies. They had this one segment in particular that inspired my blog for today. It was the "...so what" segment. Women stood up and said things like...

"My thighs touch when I walk...so what!"

or

"I didn't loose those last 15 pounds...so what!" (coming from a woman who had already lost over 200 pounds!)

I loved this! When I was in high school I had a "minor" eating disorder(I say "minor" because I never needed treatment, but I abused laxatives, exercised fanatically, and I ate as little as I could.) What eventually happened to me was something sort of like this "...so what" segment. I just realized one day, "I'm not a size 2, and I never will be...so what!"

So, I've been thinking. We all have insecurities, but why? My friends and family don't love me less because I'm chubby! I've never lost any friends because of my stretch marks! Seems to me, the only person who really cares about these things...is ME! So, from now on when my insecurities start to creep in, I'm going to say...so what. This not only works for body image issues, but anything else you're self-conscious about. So here are a few of my"...so whats." What are yours?

My stomach isn't flat (not even close) ...so what.
I have cellulite...so what.
My arm fat jiggles when I wave...so what.
I have chub-rub (that's when your legs rub together when you walk) ...so what.
I can't run a mile under 10 minutes...so what.
I haven't graduated from college...so what.
I shop at Wal-mart...so what.
I let my kids stay up late...so what.
I bribe my kids with candy...so what.
I'm not perfect...SO WHAT!!!

The list could go on and on...

Good idea Lynette, we all need a little reality check about what really matters

Perfect thing for me to read tonight as I whined all day about my fat belly and cried about the mounting pile of laundry. I have a newborn -- SO WHAT!
